I Finished A Song!

Feels weird to say it, but I, after years, actually have an original composition written, recorded and produced, to completion. No demos, remixes or incomplete works, just… a song. "The Last Song", as I've titled it, and also the first song on what I hope becomes a new record, and my debut as a music artist (rather than just a producer).

The difference may sound small, but for someone who's been basically writing concept tracks for the better part of a decade, having a "song" ready feels like a game changer. I feel like I finally have a "sound" that's unique and that could develop into something of a signature style if I keep at it. I also feel like I can focus a bit more on branding myself and reach an audience that spans beyond my friend circle.

For context, I wrote the lyrics and original composition to "The Last Song" (Back then it was just called 'Last Song') in 2022. It was inspired by my then creative frustration, and reflected my general mental state during the COVID pandemic - an event that I've since erased from my mind. The aftermath of social isolation, coupled with an incessant habit of religiously reading bad news, made me depend more on music for comfort. However, it quickly became my only source of "success", breeding perfectionism and a deep rooted sense of hopelessness.

It was this hopelessness that ultimately made me want to give up, as the expectation I had placed on my craft far outweighed what I could realistically achieve. The (surprising) result? 'Last Song' was born and it became a "Swan Song" of sorts to reflect on what could have been, what has become, and what would be inevitable - the death of my art. It's a fitting theme for what I was going through, and it ended up being, ironically, the first song on an EP I released later that same year.

I'll be the first to point out the irony here. How can this song be my debut if it's also my last song? The honest answer is that, just like with the previous EP, this is intentional. A lot of my thoughts and struggles often come from within. Having this song be a debut is my way of getting out of my head, and challenging the part of me that has consistently made me question myself. It all begins here.

Writing this almost made me forget why I decided to make this blog - to share my new single! Stream 'The Last Song' now on YouTube and YouTube Music! If you like what you hear, make sure to like, share, comment and subscribe!
